What’s Medical Payments Coverage?
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage typically covers damages to you and your property caused by another driver who doesn’t have insurance (uninsured) or does not have adequate insurance (underinsured) to cover your damages. This coverage varies from state-to-state. Any specific questions should be directed to your claim representative.
Your policy’s limits and deductibles indicate what we’ll pay, and what you will pay, in the event of a covered loss.
- Your policy limits refer to the highest amount of money Gateway is responsible for paying in the event of a covered loss. For example, 100/300/100 means 100,000 coverage is the maximum limit paid by Gateway per person for bodily injury, 300,000. is the maximum total paid per accident for bodily injury (regardless of the number of individuals involved) and 100,000 is the maximum limit paid for property damage you caused for any single accident.
- Your deductible is the portion of a covered loss that you pay before the insurance company becomes responsible for payment under your policy. For example, if the covered claim is $5,500.00 and your deductible is $250.00, you pay $250.00 and Gateway then pays the remainder: $5,250.00.
See your insurance contract for all of the details as this varies depending on your agreement. In, most cases Gateway will pay the damages you are legally liable for and will then ask you to reimburse Gateway your designated liability/SIR stated amount.
Each coverage in your policy provides a different protection, so the coverages and limits you chose have a direct bearing on this question. This good time to familiarize yourself with the details of your policy, and any applicable amendatory endorsements. Once you refresh your memory about what you purchased, talk to your claim representative or agent.

- Ambulance
- Emergency Room/Hospital
- Physicians
- X-Rays
