Diane M. Hendricks started her career in 1970 along with her husband, Ken, by purchasing and renovating residential properties. Simultaneously, Ken owned a commercial roofing company and together they now own a vast portfolio of commercial real estate throughout the United States. In 1982, they saw the need for a national distribution chain, ABC Supply Company, to supply contractors with roofing and siding products. Diane was responsible for its administration, and concentrated on insurance requirements and related legal matters. Ken focused on growth and services. In the late 1980's Diane established an offshore insurance captive primarily for self-insuring ABC Supply. After analyzing the insurance needs of the building contractors and the exposure to such variable and inconsistent costs of insurance, it was apparent that contractors needed a more reliable source for acquiring the necessary insurance coverage. In 1993, she formed an insurance agency, American Patriot Insurance, with offices in Chicago to provide alternative and comprehensive insurance programs to the construction industry. Along with the success of these businesses, has come diversification and now both Diane and Ken hold various board positions of a broad range of business interests within their portfolio. She also currently serves on the boards of seven charitable and civic organizations, is past Chair of the United Way and Stateline Community Foundation, and spends much of her free time in philanthropic activities.
